All-New Dolls of the World Take Flight!

After 30 years and more than 100 dolls, Dolls of the World® is the largest and longest-running series in the history of Barbie® Collector. Such a rich heritage also presents a unique challenge. How do you keep the line fresh for current collectors, and also introduce a new generation of Barbie fans to the globe-trotting glamour?

More than a year in the making, the answer has finally arrived! The 2012 Dolls of the World Collection® officially debuts today, with four dolls designed to delight and excite with aspirational versions of historically iconic styles.

“We wanted to make a cohesive statement that would set us apart from what was done in the past,” says Linda Kyaw, who designed the new dolls for Barbie Collector. “The overall tone and manner is more whimsical, and heavily inspired by classic illustrated travelogues.”

Collectors will recognize new takes on familiar countries with China Barbie® Doll and IrelandBarbie® Doll, two of the most popular destinations in the line. An Australia Barbie® Doll hasn’t been created since 1993, and for the first time ever, the line travels to the second-largest country in South America with Argentina Barbie® Doll.

Spanning four continents, the subjects and styles for the line were chosen “to offer variety in every way possible, from the selection of the countries down to the hair colors for each doll,” Linda adds. “Each doll is carefully designed to stand beautifully on its own, and also to work in harmony with the rest of the line.”
